Where do I sign?

My late mom and dad, welcoming us home after we moved back from Texas in 1992.

The extremely colorful Arianna Huffington substituted for the Valley's own Rachel Maddow on MSNBC tonight, a show we seem to watch every night, and gave what I hope will be an influential pitch encouraging Barack Obama's mother-in-law Marian Robinson to move with the family to the White House.

Here's how Huffington puts it on her blog at The Huffington Post:

"My favorite story of the week was the news that Michelle Obama's mother will be coming to live with the first family in the White House -- there to help Malia and Sasha make the transition to a new school, new friends, and the presidential spotlight. As my own mother lived with us -- a soulful presence in my daughters' life - I know firsthand there is nothing like a Yaya (Greek for grandmother). "First Granny" Marian Robinson's White House move provides a powerful teachable moment for America, offering the perfect solution to both our nation's child care crisis, and the cultural black mark of abandoning our seniors in old age homes."

Classic.

Huffington suggested she might start a petition saying, "We want a granny in the White House." Where do I sign? I look at family groups spanning three generations with great wistfulness now that both my mom and dad are dead. I won't be in a group like that again, I think, until I become a grandmother probably. On a related note, what I have found most intriguing about Sarah Palin is how often you see her with her kids, especially Piper. (YES! a chance to post a Piper pic.)

  1. I enjoy your enjoyment of the families of our most prominent national politicians. And they are our age peers.

Like the Kennedy's in 1960 (my birth year) the Obama's will arrive in the White House with two children. (Age 10 and 7 like by brother).

If Palin's book deal gets done. You'll be able to learn a lot more about Piper and her siblings.

Did you see Ted Kennedy returned to the Senate to get some work done during the lame duck session? Go Ted!

I'm sorry to hear that Joe turncoat Lieberman will get his Homeland security chair. If you don't have consequences, members have no incentive to tow the line. Joe isn't done causing problems.

  2. Totally down for some family watching the girls as Michelle works as First Lady. Someone to pick the girls up from school (with Secret Service in tow) and make them lunch. They need to make sure that the busy lives of those in the White House don't distract their great job as parents thus far.

  3. Anon -- YEs, what a good day to see Ted Kennedy looking pretty good. I do hope Palin writes a good book. Aaron, yeah I agree having their grandmother would be a great thing for the Obama girls. They're going to be amazing.

  4. Hi Mary did you see that HuffPo has a tongue-in-cheek competition between Piper and Sasha about which 7-year-old is more awesome?
