Had the day off because I worked this weekend, so I did some long overdue cleaning in advance of four of my five siblings, in-laws and kids coming for Thanksgiving Thursday. It's our first Thanksgiving without my dad, who died in April.
Thanks to Dad, I have this carpet shampooer, one of my favorite appliances of all time. I can't relax if the carpet is messy, something I inherited from Dad, who I used to see picking up little scraps of paper or thread on the carpet, sometimes in his underwear. I do that too.
Found this information about Thanksgiving on Wikidpedia: "Most business and government workers (78% in 2007) are also given both Thanksgiving and the day after as paid holidays. Thanksgiving Eve, on the Wednesday night before, has been one of the busiest nights of the year for bars and clubs, both in terms of sales and volume of patrons, as many students have returned to their hometowns from college."
Sadly, I don't get the day after Thanksgiving off. The news never stops!
I really like high end, all natural cleaning products and some old standbys too, like lemon bleach. I love the smell of bleach, because it reminds me of all the indoor swimming pools I frequented growing up, especially the Pittsfield Girls Club, where I was on the swim team. I've noticed that quite a few other women who weren't on swim teams swear by lemon bleach too.
My siblings and in-laws and I have a Secret Santa Christmas exchange every year, so we only have to buy one thing for the siblings and concentrate on the kids. This year, I am asking for high end, all natural cleaning products. (I pretty much own every affordable bath and body product you could think of.) I have also requested chocolates.
I love the Mrs. Meyers line! It is amazing how just a scent can dramatically change your mood. I have always been very nervous about bleach but have recently been converted by Marc's family. Still haven't worked up the courage to try it in a wash load yet!
ReplyDeleteI will also put in a plug for a convenient product used most days in our house. The Spot Bot by Bissell. It is a mini all in one stain cleaner. Fill with shampoo, plop on a spot and press a button. It sprays, scrubs and suctions on its own.
