Garage watcher, you're right!

Garage watcher pointed out in the comment section at the previous post that I didn't even mention the garage moved to Gray Street from Kendrick Park -- in front of the house not behind it like a caboose. I actually liked the way it looked, so neat and compact, even more than the house. Good call.
Amherst developer Barry Roberts bought the house and garage for $500 and paid about $55,000 to have them moved, meeting the requirements of the park trust that houses be removed from the property as they were sold.

  1. Nice photo.

But still kind of cheating on the NaBloPoMo thing are we not?

  2. There is a long-standing and somewhat regrettable belief that garages have taken a back seat to homes as domiciles. They are priced less and frequently ignored when relocated. Some call it prejudice; others say the distinction is merited.

You can't build a colonial house and garage for 55,500 plus the cost of the foundation! It'll be interesting to see Barry Roberts’ asking price. This “development” project is also a good thing to preserve the look and feel of Amherst. Houses like this one give the residential town it’s character. IMO

  3. I thought for sure that house would eventually deteriorate until it would have to be torn down, or else get burned down like the small structure that once stood to one side of the garage did this summer. Kids and homeless people routinely broke into the house and garage. God bless that developer, as I think that house was moved just in the nick of time.
